Colombiamoda, Latin America’s most influential fashion trade fair, is expanding its footprint beyond Colombia as it positions itself as the defining platform for the region’s fashion industry. The July 2026 edition drew record attendance from 35 countries, with buyers and press from Brazil, Mexico, Chile, and Peru forming the largest international delegations.
This year’s edition featured a dedicated runway program spotlighting emerging designers from across the region, including names like Johana Ortiz from Colombia, Francesca Miranda from El Salvador, and Lydia Lavin from Mexico. The common thread was a contemporary reinterpretation of indigenous craft techniques—hand embroidery, natural dyeing, and traditional weaving—applied to modern silhouettes.
The fair, hosted biannually in Medellín, has undergone a strategic transformation under new directorship. Where previous editions focused primarily on Colombia’s domestic textile and apparel manufacturing base, the current program emphasizes cross-border collaboration and the elevation of Latin American design voices on the global stage.
The expansion reflects a broader trend of global fashion’s growing interest in Latin America as both a production hub and a source of creative energy. With manufacturing costs rising across Asia, Colombia’s textile industry—known for its denim, knitwear, and swimwear categories—has positioned itself as a viable nearshoring alternative for North American brands.
For Colombian designers and manufacturers, Colombiamoda’s growth represents an opportunity to capture more value within the global supply chain. The question is whether the fair can sustain this momentum and translate attendance figures into lasting commercial relationships.
