i-D is getting a new editor in chief. Thom Bettridge is stepping down after a tenure that reoriented the magazine around community and image-making, with global editorial director Steff Yotka stepping into the role.
The succession keeps the editorial vision inside the building while freeing Bettridge to build the kind of independent practice that many media leaders now pursue after their in-house chapters.
His exit is not a retirement. Bettridge is returning to Content World, the creative studio he co-founded, which has produced campaigns and brand films for fashion houses across the industry.
Yotka inherits a title whose cultural currency has rarely been higher, even as the economics around independent fashion media tighten.
Bettridge’s editorship was defined by a print-first revival, oversized issues, celebrity covers shot by art-world photographers, and a digital operation that treated the feed as a studio rather than a news desk.
