Michael Kors has unveiled its 45th anniversary campaign, photographed by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin and styled by Carlos Nazario, with Judith Light, Lea Michele and Misty Copeland among the faces.
Judith Light’s ease in front of the camera counters that discipline with warmth, while Lea Michele supplies the theatrical polish, each woman working in a different register of the same composed glamour.
Inez and Vinoodh’s long collaboration with the house gives the images a consistent light, while Nazario’s styling keeps the clothes close to the body and the mood celebratory without strain.
The casting reads like a program note for the house’s history: stage, screen and ballet brought together under a single lens.
The range of ages and disciplines is the point. Anniversary campaigns live or die on memory, and Michael Kors is leaning on the accumulated authority of women who have defined their own eras.
Misty Copeland carries the hero position, her ballet-trained line giving the campaign its sculptural anchor, the fabric catching the same tension she brings to the barre.
