Samsonite has acquired a stake in Béis, the luggage label founded by actress Shay Mitchell, in a deal valued at $178.5 million. The investment gives the world’s largest luggage maker a foothold in a younger, direct-to-consumer travel market.
Béis keeps its own management and brand identity, with Samsonite providing manufacturing scale and supply chain muscle. The structure mirrors the conglomerate playbook of minority-first investments that can deepen over time.
The deal lands as global travel demand continues to climb and luggage sales ride a post-pandemic recovery. Brands with social-native founders and strong direct channels have outperformed traditional wholesale players.
The luggage market has consolidated quickly in recent years, with heritage houses acquiring the DTC challengers that eroded their share. This deal is the clearest signal yet that the travel-accessory boom is not cooling.
Béis built its name on affordable carry-on bags, weekender totes, and organizational travel accessories sold primarily online. Its playful, feminine aesthetic stood apart from Samsonite’s engineering-first identity.
For Samsonite, the stake buys access to a demographic it has struggled to reach. Mitchell’s four million Instagram followers function as a distribution channel no trade show could replicate.
