Banana Republic has partnered with the New York label La Ligne on a 36-piece limited edition for autumn, a collaboration that matches polish to easy proportion.
For La Ligne, it is a way to reach a wider, more work-centered customer than the boutiques that stocked its breakout striped sheath.
La Ligne built its name on striped knits and striped-ready silhouettes, while Banana Republic carries decades of tailored merino and sharp wool, so the common ground is texture worn with structure.
The result is a meeting of two fair-weather aesthetics, each bringing the other just enough of what it lacked.
Stripes ground the collaboration, applied to knits, dresses and tailoring, while soft shoulders and a forgiving waistline keep every piece from reading too formal.
The capsule landed September 9, after an early drop for the retailer’s Encore members, and covers the stretch of wardrobe between the office and the weekend.
