Pantone Adds 224 Colours for a Maximalist Moment

Pantone has added 224 new colours to its Matching System, one of the largest expansions of the catalogue in years and a direct response to a design industry hungry for saturated tone.

The additions are engineered to travel from digital concept to physical sample without losing intensity, closing a gap designers have long complained about between screen and shelf.

Whether the industry fully commits to the colour remains an open question, but the tooling now exists for designers to do so without compromise.

The new shades lean vivid, answering an appetite for electric pinks, citrus yellows and jewel-toned blues that has been building across fashion, interiors and product design.

The palette reads as a decisive answer to the muted neutrals that defined recent seasons, a chromatic swerve that finds resonance in maximalist fashion and statement interiors alike.
