Primark has signed a long-term agreement with CIRC, the US chemical recycling company, securing a committed supply of recycled polyester feedstock. The deal ties Europe’s largest fast-fashion retailer to a technology route that breaks down blended textiles into virgin-quality raw material.
CIRC’s fiber-to-fiber process treats mixed polyester-cotton waste, extracting the polyester for reuse in new garments. The method addresses a structural problem in the industry: most textile recycling struggles to reprocess blends, which dominate high-volume apparel.
The agreement gives Primark a defensible source of recycled material as regulatory pressure mounts across Europe. Extended producer responsibility schemes and imminent textile waste directives will require brands to account for the end-of-life of their garments.
The scale is the point. CIRC’s model only becomes economical with guaranteed offtake, and a partner of Primark’s volume can justify the capital intensity of chemical recycling infrastructure. The pair declined to disclose tonnage or financial terms.
Commercial observers will watch whether the feedstock reaches Primark’s core price architecture or remains confined to premium eco-lines. The answer determines whether chemical recycling moves from pilot scale to a genuine high-volume input.
