WACKO MARIA has unveiled its first collaboration with Major League Baseball, training its idiosyncratic lens on the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, and San Diego Padres. The capsule condenses each club’s identity into sportswear reimagined through the Tokyo label’s unmistakable codes.
At a moment when sport-fashion partnerships are ubiquitous, WACKO MARIA has produced a collection whose identity remains recognisably its own. It is baseball, re-fitted to the brand’s louche, animal-print sensibility.
The design language is where the payout lies: historic team marks rendered through leopard prints, WACKO’s recurring motif, and fabric choices drawn from the brand’s streetwear vocabulary rather than standard-issue fan merchandise. The result reads as fashion first, memorabilia second.
The capsule lands October 10 at three WACKO MARIA flagship stores, the brand’s online shop, and authorised retailers. Pricing tiers them across the range, with the Reversible Varsity Jacket at ¥63,800 and a Crew Neck T-shirt at ¥8,800.
Collaborations between Japanese labels and American sporting institutions have multiplied in recent years, but WACKO MARIA’s approach is distinctive in its refusal to gentrify. It embeds club heritage inside the house’s existing aesthetic rather than adapting its aesthetic to the club.
The centrepiece is a Reversible Varsity Jacket that pairs nylon with leopard-print fur, yielding a garment that flips between two looks depending on the wearer’s mood. It anchors a range that extends to a Track Jacket, Track Pants, a Heavyweight Pullover Hoodie, and a Crew Neck T-shirt, all drafted from WACKO MARIA’s original patterns.
