Jimmy Choo is building a capsule around a single, loaded material. The house has unveiled its Pearls of Wisdom collection, turning the pearl, a fixture of classic evening dressing, into a motif for new shoes and bags.
The pearl carries a history that swings between signifiers: the buttoned-up restraint of an older generation and the reinterpretation that designers have given it in recent seasons as a badge of unconventional polish.
Working the pearl into hard accessories asks a different question than applying it to a garment. On jewellery and hardware it must read as decoration and also bear the structure of a shoe or handbag, a balance of delicacy and engineering.
The capsule fits a seasonal moment in which quiet luxury has made the pearl newly contemporary. Reframed with a modern hand, a timeless material becomes a fresh argument for dressing up.
Expect the collection to play the material against the house’s sharper lines, placing pearls where they catch the light on a toe, a strap or a clasp rather than smothering the design in ornament.
