Celebrity beauty brands usually begin with a face and end in a licensing arrangement. Haus Labs has taken the less common route, keeping its founder inside the business long enough for her to end up running it.
At minimum the announcement removes a layer of translation between the founder’s intent and the executive floor, and that is a rarer asset than it sounds.
It also concentrates risk. A founder-chief executive is simultaneously the brand’s most credible voice and its least replaceable executive.
The move is unusual in an industry that typically moves founders toward a creative or ambassadorial title as the company professionalises.
