Mango has placed Alex Consani at the centre of its SELECTION party capsule, photographed by Nadia Lee Cohen in a campaign that treats December as a set rather than a season.
The references are specific and unapologetic: oversized fur coats, sequinned mini dresses, shoulder lines built with structure rather than padding alone, cropped blazer suits, animal print outerwear and embellished denim.
Consani is an effective choice because she performs glamour as a joke she is in on. The 1980s register this collection depends on collapses instantly if the wearer appears to believe it too sincerely, and her modelling has always carried that faint, deliberate absurdity.
Cohen’s photographs extend the same instinct. Her frames are staged, saturated and slightly uncomfortable, closer to film stills than to fashion plates, which keeps a party capsule from looking like a catalogue of party clothes.
The campaign also launches Mango Visions, a platform that invites creative figures to imprint their perspective on a collection. The debut edition brings in Dree Hemingway, Harry Hamlin, Priscilla Delgado and Carine Roitfeld as cameos.
The capsule is available now. Its success will be measured less by the campaign images than by whether the shoulder line survives a real evening.
