Atelier Versace Returns to the Couture Runway, With Pieter Mulier at the Needle

Atelier Versace will return to the Paris couture runway in January, closing a silence that has lasted since July 2016, when the house last staged a dedicated couture show.

In the decade between, couture at Versace survived as private orders and red carpet commissions, a whisper rather than a statement.

For now the venue is unconfirmed and the invitation list hypothetical. What is settled is that Versace has decided the atelier is worth showing, after ten years of deciding it was not.

Couture’s proportion language tends to travel: shoulder line, waist suppression, the length at which a skirt reads as considered rather than merely short. What Mulier establishes in January will be argued out again in the ready-to-wear that follows.
