Duolingo has turned the anxiety of mispronouncing a designer’s name into clothing, launching the Phonetic Collection for New York Fashion Week.
Designed with Next in Fashion alum Megan O’Cain, the capsule reworks fashion references into pieces marked with phonetic spellings, exaggerated proportions and playful typography.
The collection debuts with a campaign by Duo on Canal Street and a two-day pop-up at Null Object, staging the awkwardness of learning in the open.
Its message is disarmingly light, that fluency in fashion is not a prerequisite for dressing the part, and that getting it wrong can be its own statement.
