Nightiecore Is the Dress Trend Taking Over Summer

The slip dress has long occupied fashion’s quiet corner — a minimalist staple associated with Kate Moss in the 1990s and the luxury basics of The Row. This summer, a new variant has emerged, and it goes by the name nightiecore.

On the streets of Paris during the June men’s shows, editors wore nightiecore dresses with chunky fisherman sandals and crossbody bags, proving the look is not limited to the bedroom or the beach. The tension between the delicate, intimate fabric and the utilitarian accessories is the whole point.

Whether the trend survives beyond summer depends on how brands adapt it for cooler months. Layering a nightiecore dress over a thin turtleneck or under a boxy blazer could extend its lifespan, but the current iteration is unapologetically seasonal — a summer fling, not a lifetime commitment.

Brands from Miu Miu to Khaite have offered their own versions. Miu Miu’s iteration features a micro-floral print on a bias-cut silk base, hemmed unevenly to graze the ankle at the back while rising at the front. Khaite’s take is more severe — a narrow column in black crepe with a single strap and a trailing hem that suggests purposeful negligence.
