WME has sold the New York Fashion Week trademarks and the intellectual property behind NYFW: The Shows to Signet Fashion. The deal transfers the official branding, website, and social media handles of America’s flagship fashion week to a new owner.
Signet Fashion now inherits the most valuable asset in the American fashion calendar: the right to call an event New York Fashion Week.
Because the deal includes the associated digital assets, the new owner controls the digital front door through which the industry and the public experience the shows.
For the buyer, the prize is not event production but institutional weight, since the trademarks anchor a brand that can extend into licensing, media, and retail partnerships far beyond the twice-yearly shows.
The CFDA, which coordinates the official calendar and has its own long relationship with the NYFW name, will now navigate a new commercial partner.
What is certain is that the value of the NYFW name has now been priced and sold, leaving the direction of American fashion’s most visible stage in new hands.
Whether Signet runs the shows itself or licenses the name back to producers remains the open question, and the next season will be the first test.
