Ykone Buys Its Way Into the Rooms Where Influence Is Priced

The influencer marketing agency Ykone closed two deals in a week, taking a minority investment in the Tokyo agency Lateam and acquiring the Milan shop Digital Dust. Neither sum was disclosed, which is itself informative about where the value sits in this business.

The geographic logic is consistent. The agency has held offices in Hong Kong and Shanghai since 2021 and entered India in 2024 by buying 70 percent of the local firm Barcode. Japan was the conspicuous gap.

The test for Ykone is whether the Tokyo majority materialises on schedule. Minority stakes in creative businesses tend to drift when founders and owners disagree about growth, and the timeline will reveal whether this is a partnership or an option.

That promise is what the luxury houses now demand. A campaign is conceived centrally and adapted across a dozen markets, and a network that cannot staff the local version of it becomes an intermediary with a markup and no special knowledge.

Lateam was founded by Pablo Yano, who stays on as chief executive of the renamed Ykone Tokyo. Ykone intends to raise its stake to a majority over the next couple of years, a structure that lets it test a market before committing capital to it.

Olivier Billon, Ykone’s founder and chief executive, argued that Japan is one of the most powerful influence markets in the world and that no international agency of this kind had established itself there. He tied the opportunity to Japanese rigour, detail and creativity.

Digital Dust brings a different asset. Founded in 2013, it has worked with Lancome, L’Oreal, Cartier and Chopard as well as the Italian houses Pomellato and Ginori 1735. Its founders and chief executive stay in place, which is how agency acquisitions usually preserve the client relationships they paid for.
