Erin Parsons Opens the Makeup Archive

Beauty historian Erin Parsons has launched the Makeup Archive, an online museum displaying and detailing more than 1,500 rare beauty products collected over years of research.

The archive treats cosmetics as material culture, cataloguing the formulas, packaging and advertising that defined each era rather than arranging them as mere nostalgia.

Parsons built her following by tracing the origins of famous looks and resurrecting discontinued shades, and the museum formalizes what her platforms have been doing informally.

The timing is telling. Beauty’s recent seasons have been dominated by archival revivals, with brands mining their own histories for product and imagery alike.

An independent archive changes the balance of that conversation, giving the industry a reference point that does not sit inside a brand’s marketing department.
