London’s Fashion and Textile Museum will stage a major exhibition on Ossie Clark and Celia Birtwell, the pair who defined the London look of the late 1960s and early 1970s.
Their clothes were worn by Bianca Jagger, Marianne Faithfull, Marisa Berenson, Elizabeth Taylor, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Jimi Hendrix.
The exhibition places equal weight on both parties, tracing how Birtwell’s prints and Clark’s bias-cut construction together turned vintage glamour into everyday wear.
Archive runway footage from the Royal Court Theatre and Chelsea Town Hall will sit alongside strawberry-embroidered satin trouser suits, Brian Jones’s chiffon shirts and the 1968 Lamborghini jacket.
