Marks & Spencer has teamed with Aries, the London label known for its irreverent take on wardrobe staples, in a collaboration few saw coming.
The meeting of a national institution and a niche cult label is deliberate, a way for M&S to borrow credibility while Aries gains a sudden lift in distribution and scale.
The launch collapses the distance between two very different wardrobes, and the market will read it as a signal of how far the high street is willing to travel.
The pieces trade in familiar territory, knitwear, shirting and jackets, reworked with the collab’s signature print and a deliberately subverted finish.
The pairing sets the retailer’s quiet tailoring against Aries’ graphic slouch, sweat sets and embroidered outerwear carrying the younger brand’s cultural shorthand.
