Amy Smilovic travelled to Nashville for Tibi’s thirtieth anniversary, visiting Dolly Parton’s home state well before the musician’s passing. She wanted to mark the milestone by, as she put it, getting out of her own head.
A hand-sketched silk print wove the Tennessee state flower, the iris, together with vintage automobiles, guitar players, and cowboy boots, an homage to the scarves that launched the brand in 1997.
The tribute arrived in the details, grommet-studded Western yolks, gingham shirts, and a pencil skirt with tiers of beaded tassels, flashes of flash against an otherwise muted lineup.
Parton became the reference because she did not care what anyone thought, a woman who knew exactly who she was.
