Wynn Hamlyn, the New Zealand label that built a devoted following across the Pacific and beyond through its sculptural knitwear and quiet intensity, has released its final collection: a ten-year retrospective capsule that returns to the pieces that defined its singular voice.
The WH 10-Year Knitwear Capsule, released this week with no restocks and limited units, reworks six archival silhouettes drawn across the brand’s decade-long trajectory. What makes the collection more than a greatest-hits package is the casting: the campaign features a caravanserai of characters from the brand’s history — past collaborators, long-time muses, studio team members — wearing the pieces as they were meant to be worn, not as museum artifacts but as living garments.
For a label that began as a one-person operation in 2016, when founder Wynn Hamlyn left his job as a land surveyor to pursue pattern cutting, the capsule reads as a meditation on care. The brand’s signature — those exaggerated sleeves, the dropped armholes that create a sense of suspended weight, the ribbed cuffs that gather at the wrist like a held breath — is present in every piece, refined over a thousand small iterations across ten years.
What the capsule makes visible, in its carefully restrained edit of six pieces, is the cumulative intelligence of a designer who never repeated himself. Each reissued garment carries the trace of its original context — a 2017 coat with the wool shortage that forced a fabric substitution and resulted in a denser, more sculptural hand; a 2021 sweater whose dropped stitch became a signature.
The collection’s release comes after Hamlyn announced in April that Spring Summer 2026 would be the brand’s final season ‘for now.’ In the statement, he spoke of the unsustainable rhythm of independent fashion: the pressure to produce season after season, the difficulty of maintaining quality at scale, the exhaustion of being both designer and business owner in a retail ecosystem that rewards speed above all else.
