Coperni Placed Into Receivership by Paris Commercial Court

The Paris Commercial Court placed Coperni under receivership on June 11, marking a dramatic downturn for a label that, just two years ago, was among the most talked-about names in French fashion. The brand, founded by Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant in 2013, became synonymous with technology-infused design — think phone-charging handbags, dresses sprayed onto models on the runway, and the viral Swipe bag that became an It-accessory of the early 2020s. But behind the spectacle, the business was fraying.

The receivership proceeding, known in French law as redressement judiciaire, allows Coperni to continue operating under court supervision while a restructuring plan is developed. The court will appoint an administrator to assess the company’s finances, negotiate with creditors, and determine whether a viable path forward exists. The label’s 80 employees remain employed during the observation period, but the mood at the brand’s Paris headquarters is described as tense. A buyer or investor could emerge to acquire the business out of receivership, but the process offers no guarantees.

The fashion world is watching the Coperni case with more than casual interest. If the brand survives restructuring, it could emerge leaner and more focused. If it folds, the story will serve as a cautionary tale about the gap between cultural buzz and business viability — a gap that runway spectacle alone cannot bridge.

Signs of trouble had been accumulating for months. In February, Coperni abruptly cancelled its Fall/Winter 2026 Paris Fashion Week show, citing shareholder disagreements. The cancellation sent a ripple of alarm through the industry; runway shows are the lifeblood of emerging Parisian labels, and skipping a season — especially during Fashion Week — is rarely a sign of minor turbulence. Sources close to the brand described a power struggle between the founding duo and an investment partner whose growth expectations clashed with the designers’ creative ambitions.
