Gap has made the case that its most mined material, denim, is also its most wearable when shaped into a handbag. The GapBag collection, the debut line designed by Reed Krakoff in his role as executive director of accessories, arrives at gap.com and in select stores on September 8.
Krakoff brings a curator’s pedigree to the project, having built his reputation on accessories that balance structural clarity with wearability. For him, the collection is deeply personal, he has said, rooted in a brand that has been part of his life for as long as he can remember.
The moment suits the move. A heritage American label leaning into its own archive, rather than chasing trend, is the durable story of the season, and Gap’s denim equity gives Krakoff a language no rival can copy.
The GapBag lands as the retailer is leaning harder into both premium accessories and its own heritage, a twin bet that could lift average transaction values if the denim grammar converts an everyday customer.
