The World Cup trophy makes its journey to the final on Sunday inside a trunk that is as much a piece of design history as the tournament it serves. Louis Vuitton, in its tenth year as the official trophy travel partner, has unveiled a bespoke monogram case for the 18-karat gold prize.
The trunk, crafted in the brand’s Asnières workshop outside Paris, is covered in the house’s signature coated canvas with reverse-monogram canvas interior lining. A custom locking mechanism — designed to require two authorized representatives to open — echoes the security rituals that attend the trophy’s real-world transport.
For Louis Vuitton, the association is about visibility on a scale few marketing investments can match. The trunk appears in pre-match broadcast segments, airport arrivals, and locker-room celebrations across 200-plus territories, earning the house placement in a narrative that is as much about emotion as logistics.
The partnership predates the current fashion-sports crossover wave, having begun in 2018 when Louis Vuitton first created a trunk for the FIFA World Cup trophy. Since then, the house has extended the concept to the Rugby World Cup, the NBA Larry O’Brien Trophy, and the League of Legends Summoner’s Cup.
The logistics are themselves formidable. The trophy travels in a pressurized, temperature-controlled compartment within the trunk, accompanied at all times by a FIFA security detail and a representative from the trophy’s manufacturer. Louis Vuitton’s craftspeople built the case to absorb shock from drops, temperature extremes, and the cumulative vibration of air and road travel.
On Sunday, when Argentina and Brazil meet in the final, the trunk will sit pitch-side. Its journey — from a suburban Paris workshop to the centre of the world’s most-watched sporting event — mirrors the trajectory of the brand itself: rooted in craft, projected onto a global stage.
