Mammut, the Swiss mountaineering house, and Junya Watanabe, Tokyo’s master of reconstructed tailoring, have joined forces on a capsule that marries alpine function to the designer’s meticulous deconstruction.
For Mammut, the partnership is a bid for cultural relevance beyond the trailhead, echoing similar moves by outdoor labels courting the fashion audience. For Watanabe, it extends a long practice of grafting industrial history onto runway invention.
Mammut brings a heritage born at the foot of the Alps, while Watanabe superimposes his signature collage of utility, workwear, and sculptural drape.
The range reconsiders the technical shell through Watanabe’s eye, treating breathable membranes and welded seams as material for a more cerebral cut.
The capsule is set to reach select stockists this season, its pieces likely to be courted by collectors in the overlapping worlds of technical outerwear and avant-garde fashion.
The result is a visual narrative of contrasting worlds held in equilibrium, a collaboration described as the convergence of seemingly opposite realms.
