Seán McGirr Exits Alexander McQueen as Kering Resets Its Design Roster

Kering confirmed on Thursday that Seán McGirr is leaving Alexander McQueen after three seasons, closing a tenure that opened with unusual expectation and ends inside a broader restructuring of the London house.

For a group still working through a turnaround, the pattern says less about any single designer than about how quickly houses are now rewritten when quarterly numbers disappoint.

The first collection under new direction will test whether that inheritance converts into full-price demand.

New creative leadership is promised in due course, and the next appointment will reveal whether the group wants a technician of tailoring or another cultural translator.

His remit was to pull the label back toward the London street culture that charged Lee Alexander McQueen’s earliest collections, and for Spring 2027 he reunited the house with its longtime jeweller Shaun Leane.

Kering’s first-half recurring operating income fell 39 percent to 969 million euros, against analyst expectations nearer 934.9 million euros.

Shares have rebounded almost a quarter since de Meo’s appointment, though the stock remains down roughly 11 percent this year.
