Riyadh Fashion Week, due to begin on October 15, has been postponed until 2027, and no official schedule for the fourth edition was ever published.
For regional designers, a postponed week removes the single most efficient moment in the year to place their work in front of international buyers in one room.
Brands and retailers across the Gulf have leaned harder on contingency planning, rerouting shipments and shifting launch calendars while shipping and energy costs climb.
A calendar that can be cancelled by geopolitics is a fragile foundation for an emerging fashion capital, however well funded.
The week had been positioned as a platform for an industry the kingdom has funded heavily, from manufacturing capacity to designer grants and retail incentives.
Its delay follows several seasons of rapid luxury retail expansion in Saudi Arabia, where flagships opened at a pace unmatched in most Western markets.
