Fashion Terms Starting with Letter C

In this post, I wanted to cover fashion terms starting with the letter C. In fashion, there are lots of words that start with a letter other than A or B so I want to cover them all in one place for you! If you have any specific requests just leave me a comment and I’ll do my best to include it in my next blog post about fashion terms starting with a different letter. Let’s get started!

  • Capsule wardrobe: A capsule wardrobe is a small number of clothing items (usually no more than ten) that can be mixed and matched into various outfits for different occasions. The idea behind the concept is that people should only purchase clothes they really love and will wear often; having too many clothes (capsule wardrobe) implies that you don’t know how to prioritize. This idea is often the opposite of fashion trends and trendy clothing; it requires a lot of self-control to only buy things that complement each other and work together.
  • Closet: Clothes storage: When people refer to their closet, they’re typically talking about a piece of furniture that houses clothes. Closets are still the most common place to store clothing, but some people do have large walk-in closets or other special storage areas for their wardrobe.
  • Collection: A collection is a group of items produced by one company or designer at about the same time. Collections can range from high fashion runway designs to fast fashion items inspired by the runway. High fashion items are usually only bought by collectors or super fans of a designer, but fast fashion pieces can be purchased by consumers at all levels of interest in the brand.
  • Convertible clothing: Clothing that has multiple functions is versatile and convertible clothing is one of the most versatile types. Convertible clothing can be worn in multiple ways either through design or specific instructions from the manufacturer.
  • Ethnic clothing: Ethnic is a vague term, but it typically refers to clothing that was created by cultures outside of European and American culture. Because it’s a general term, you could think of ethnic clothes as being “traditional” clothing from different parts of the world; this includes clothing like saris, mosquito netting, Korean hanboks (traditional Korean dresses), or Japanese kimonos.
